J.; M.D., University of Pennsylvania, 1844; Professor of Obstetrics, Philadelphia Medical College, 1855; in Europe, 1856-57; in charge of the Pennsylvania Training School for Feeble-minded Children, 1857-61; Sanitary Inspector, 1861-65; in charge of the Pennsylvania Sanitarium for the Treatment of Alcoholic and Opium Inebriety, 1865-72; Originator of the American Association for the Cure of Inebriates, and President, 1870-74; Superintendent, Maryland Inebriate Asylum, Baltimore, 1874; settled at Burlington, N. J., 1875; President of the Delaware County Medical Society for three years; Vice-President, State Medical Society of Pennsylvania; Editor, New Jersey Medical and Surgical Reporter, 1848, The Sanitary Commission Bulletin, Transactions of the Association for the Cure of Inebriates, and Quarterly Journal of Inebriety. Last entry in Polk’s Directory, 1890.
