J.; M.D., University of Pennsylvania, 1844; Professor of Obstetrics, Philadelphia Medical College, 1855; in Europe, 1856-57; in charge of the Pennsylvania Training School for Feeble-minded Children, 1857-61; Sanitary Inspector, 1861-65; in charge of the Pennsylvania Sanitarium for the Treatment of Alcoholic and Opium Inebriety, 1865-72; Originator of the American Association for the Cure of Inebriates, and President, 1870-74; Superintendent, Maryland Inebriate Asylum, Baltimore, 1874; settled at Burlington, N. J., 1875; President of the Delaware County Medical Society for three years; Vice-President, State Medical Society of Pennsylvania; Editor, New Jersey Medical and Surgical Reporter, 1848, The Sanitary Commission Bulletin, Transactions of the Association for the Cure of Inebriates, and Quarterly Journal of Inebriety.
