Notes: Founder. 1799. Born in Pennsylvania, 1762. Educated by Rev. Dr. Balch, of Lower Marlboro, Md., 1774-77; attended one course in the University of Pennsylvania; Surgeon’s Mate in the United States Army until 1800; practiced in Montgomery County, Md.; moved to Georgetown, D.C., 1818, where he held a prominent professional position. He owned the land on which Washington City was laid out. Died at Georgetown, D.C., October 13, 1838.
