    Notes: Dr. John Ayd, physician and pharmacist, who for fifty-four years conducted a pharmacy at Monument and Washington streets, died yesterday morning after an illness of almost a year.

    A prominent figure in Northeast Baltimore, where he had resided all his life, Dr. Ayd had a large medical practice in addition to his pharmacy. At the time of his death he was the oldest druggist in the city. In the last few years he had confined his practice of medicine to religious and charitable institutions.

    Became Carpenter
    Born December 28, 1853, he attended St. James’ Parochial School and then became a carpenter. The influence, however, of a Redemptorist priest of St. James’ Catholic Church resulted in the young man entering the Maryland School of Pharmacy, from which he was graduated in 1875.

    Three years later he opened the drug store at its present location. When his business had grown large enough to permit his employing a clerk he began his course in medicine at the College….[clipping ends here.]

    Funeral from his residence, 1937 East Monument street, on Saturday at 8 A.M. Requiem High Mass at St. Andrew’s Church at 9 A.M. Interment in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
