Author: Myrick, Hannah Glidden, 1871-1973.
Title: Papers, 1892-1971 (inclusive).
Description: 2 folders.
Notes: Born in Boston, Mass., Myrick graduated from
Girls' Latin School in Boston (1892), and Smith College
(1896) and received her medical degree from Johns Hopkins
University (1900). She practiced medicine in Boston, where
for ten years she was superintendent of the New England
Hospital for Women and Children. She was subsequently a
physician at Schraffts Candy Co. After retiring, Myrick
pursued her lifelong hobbies of gardening and photography.
She was a prize-winning amateur photographer and was credited
with developing some of the first X-ray film used at New
England Hospital for Women and Children.
Collection includes photographs and negatives
(some probably taken by Myrick) of Myrick and friends at
Smith College; reprints of articles by her; Smith College
commencement and reunion programs; and letters, 1896-1905,
from Myrick mostly to Alice (her sister?), describing her
training at Johns Hopkins and some of her patients there,
including a prostitute, and her practice in Boston.
Gift of her grandnephew, Roger M. Myrick, 1998.
Unpublished finding aid.
