    Notes: Cumberland, Aug. 18 (AP) — Dr. Charlotte B. Gardner, 86, the oldest physician in this area, died today in Memorial Hospital after a six-week illness.

    Dr. Gardner was Cumberland’s first woman physician and practiced here 53 years. She was a member of the Allegany – Garrett County Medical Association, and had served as its secretary many years.

    Dr. Gardner was the first pathologist in Cumberland’s only hospital when she came here in 1905. She brought the first medical microscope to the institution.

    Earlier, she practiced four years at Johnstown, Pa. She received a B.S. degree at Cornell in 1896 and her Ph.D. at Women’s Medical College of Philadelphia in 1899.
