“Dr. Johan Michael Robert Anthor, pioneer homeopathist of America, died night before at his home, 927 North Broadway, after week’s illness, in seventy-fifth year. Born March 4, 1821, at Bortha, Germany, he studied under three greated homeopathists of age, Hahnemann, founder of system, being close friend of young student. At age of 16 he began practice there, continuing until 1852, when he came to America. Here homeopathy was unknown. Opening office on West Lombard Street, in few years he built up quite large practice, making rheumatic treatment a specialty. After some years there he moved to his last home, where he practiced until last illness. Was member Lutheran Church and Freemason. His four sons studied medicine under him, but died before him.”
