Dr. Joseph Abell Baden, a well-known physician of this city, died yesterday morning at 5 o’clock of heart failure at 2105 North Calvert street. He had been confined to his home only one week.

Dr. Baden was born in St. Mary’s county, Maryland and was 68 years old. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1856 and practiced in St. Mary’s county until the Civil War broke out, when he joined the Confederate Army as a surgeon. He was stationed for some time at Widen Hospital, Richmond, and was in General Longstreet’s command. After the war he removed to Calvert county, where he remained seven years. About 25 years ago he came to Baltimore.

He was at one time the supreme commander of the Order of the Golden Chain, holding membership also in Park Council, No. 365, Royal Arcanum, as medical examiner. He is survived by a widow, who was Miss Maria C. Thompson, of St. Mary’s county, and one son, Mr. Richard T. Baden, of 2107 North Calvert street, who is with the Henry Keidel Company.
